Self-selection of feeds and water by unbred gilts.
نویسنده
چکیده
The pattern of voluntary feed and water intakes by nine unbred Yorkshire gilts, selected at about 125 kg body weight, was recorded for an experimental period of 22 weeks. The gilts increased body weight and showed some sustained change in dry matter (P < .05) and water intakes. Periodic depressions in these intakes were found to be coincident 0 a < .01) with estrus. Increases in depth of back-fat were not unlike those expected to occur in pregnant gilts treated similarly. The average intake of crude protein was 445 g daily. Dry matter from the protein feed source, as a proportion of total DM intake, appeared to increase steadily (P < .01) throughout the experiment.

Changes in weight and composition in various tissues of pregnant gilts and their nutritional implications.
The objectives of this study were to characterize the quantitative changes in various body tissues of high-lean type gilts during gestation and to determine the protein needs of pregnant gilts based on changes in tissue contents. Thirty-five gilts (158.2 +/- 8.3 kg) were housed in individual gestation crates with six unbred gilts randomly selected and slaughtered to provide data for d 0 of gest...
متن کاملEffects of feeding grains naturally contaminated with Fusarium mycotoxins with and without a polymeric glucomannan mycotoxin adsorbent on reproductive performance and serum chemistry of pregnant gilts.
Contamination of animal feedstuffs with Fusarium mycotoxins can cause reduced feed intake and hyperaminoacidemia resulting from reduced hepatic protein synthesis. The current study investigated the effects of feeding grains naturally contaminated with Fusarium mycotoxins on reproductive performance, serum chemistry, ADFI, and ADG of gilts, and tested the ability of a polymeric glucomannan mycot...
متن کاملReview: Use of Highly unsaturated fatty acid (HUFA) in Ornamental Fish Feeds
Ornamental fish production, like all other segments of aquaculture, relies heavily on the successful spawning, hatching, and survival of larvae. Little is known about the nutrient requirements of most ornamental fish species. In many cultivars of fishes, such as Ornamental fish, especially in those new Ornamental fish species introduced to the aquaculture industry, the rate of fecundity is an i...
متن کاملStalled Gilt Behavior when Provided with Novel Flavors on Rope Environmental Enrichment
and Implications The objective of this study was to evaluate the use of flavored ropes as environmental enrichment for individually housed gilts. Twelve crossbred gilts were observed using a randomized crossover design so that gilts were tested with ropes soaked in two of the four treatments: water, salt water, sugar water, and apple juice. Oral/nasal contacts did not differ between rope treatm...
متن کاملIncreased plasma follicle-stimulating hormone concentrations in prepubertal gilts from lines selected for increased number of corpora lutea1,2
Plasma follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) was evaluated in gilts from two studies in which ovulation rate was increased through direct selection for number of corpora lutea (CL) to determine whether selection for ovulation rate affected FSH secretion during prepubertal development. In the first study, 76 control and 110 selected gilts of University of Nebraska gene pool lines were bled twice du...
